I sing a song I sing a song – a new song Music to the ear A song raw with emotions A song to start the year A song that soothes my wary heart that I wear on my sleeve A rare song that provides reprieve from troubles near and far I sing a song – a new song A tune from the sun’s bright ray A little light to show the way to the weary seeking eye A song to brighten the overcast morn A song to drive away the burgeoning storm A song to wean me from creeping doubt’s door A song to lift me from the sinking floor.

Understanding the political game - A poem

Politics by JBF I didn’t do anything remotely wrong Politicians before me did the same. We help some people and we help ourselves. That is the name of the game that you blame. If you want to play, you play by the rules These special rules you will not learn in school They come from initiative and cunning. To ignore these rules you play the fool. Life in this place is a roller coaster A hard grind, just to eat a decent food Chances to thrive are few and far between Grabbing the ones that come improves our mood. So do not begrudge us our good fortune! We choose to put our lives out on the line. We’re courageous leaders on a mission To support those who toe the party line. I didn’t do anything remotely wrong. I’m just here carrying on the tradition. I give with one hand, I take with the other Win-win, a necessary condition. A god by the white man? The god of America. Cry for America Indivisible Inseparable One Nation Founded on liberty and justice for all Lily white Lies founded in history Excavated through time Perpetuated by ‘educators’. Blacks, graduated from chattel-hood By laws that keep them enchained Stagnating Impatient to breathe. Voices wail Fires burn Feet march Standing still. Writing creatively: What one word can do

Writing is a challenging job that requires creativity and commitment. 'Tell me something I don't know,' you are saying at this very minute, but hear me out. I have met people who want to be writers, whether writers of poems, writers of books, or writers of screen plays. They know that they should be writers. They say they feel it in their bones. It is something that is calling them from deep down inside. Their calling is to be a writer because they have something to say and they must say it. They accept the calling and sit down to write that poem, that story or that screenplay that they believe they should write. But once they have that sheet of paper or that blank word document in front of them, they draw a blank or the words they write do not capture what they intended to write. They are left frustrated. And there are those people who know that they should be writers, but they cannot, no matter how hard they try, find the right thing to write abou...

Tell all the truth but tell it slant - by Emily Dickinson (1830-1856) Tell all the truth but tell it slant - Success in Circuit lies Too bright for our infirm Delight The Truth's superb surprise As Lightning to the Children eased With explanation kind The Truth must dazzle gradually Or every man be blind - Is Dickinson talking about poetry or the nature of 'truth' as is or both or something else? What does this poem mean to you? Leave a comment below.

Life by JBF ‘I’m taking life easy,’ I said ‘What is life?’ he asked A question that nagged at my brain Causing it to hurt from the strain. Life is living. Life is joy. Life is pain. Life is gain. Life is mistakes. Life is discovery. Life is high stakes. Life is recovery. Life is dread But at least we’re not dead. Life gives us a chance To move ahead. Life is a rollercoaster It tosses us up and down And spins us around and around Before it takes us down. Down to the ground Where our ancestors roam Down to the ground Where we cease to moan. Life is. Before you go, spend a few minutes to browse the blog, subscribe to get the latest posts as soon as they are published and do read some of my poems . A bout the Author J anette B. Heart beat by JBF From the dark depths of despair We waken ourselves Searching for answers To the questions we fear. There in the wind the answers soar Out of our reach they hang in the air Fluttering dreams soaring high Blurs in the night sky. But we will soon catch them Our anthem we hum To the rhythm of our heart beat That spurs us along.
